This is so very beautiful and resonates deeply with me. I feel very strongly that a main role in life is to be generative - to sow seeds of goodness, beauty, wisdom, and love for my grandson and for the future.
Beautiful. The role a grandparent plays in a child’s life may shift, but the role of grandparent may not shift how the child remembers the grandparent. I love the thought of that.
I love that you sent those memories to your granddaughter! Her response is so beautiful. I’ve got 4 nieces that I hope would respond similarly thinking back to the moments we’ve shared through their childhood. Your post encourages me to write down what I hope they remember…
Very beautiful reflections, Lynda! I love talking with my 16 yr. old granddaughter about what she remembers about out time together. I know she doesn't remember everything, but that's okay, too. Any shared experience in a long-time relationship develops the relationship, even if not remembered, I believe. My grand children are blessed to have great-grandparents on their father's side, who are a positive and affirming relationship for them even in their "golden" years. Our influence on others are life-lasting, even beyond our time here!
Thank you. Lynn. I agree with you in that our shared experiences create connection whether the memory remains on the surface or not. Love that your grandson have great-grandparents in their life. ❤️
Such a beautiful post, Linda. I hope to continue being creative and making a difference in people's lives. I have fond memories of time spent with grandparents and cousins as I was growing up. It's a grand passing of the love ❣️!
“Elderhood does not have to mean sitting on the sidelines.” Taking this to heart, Linda. We are still waiting on our first grandchild but in the meantime are trying to be creative in ways to stay “close” to our sons during this empty nest time. Your tender words here have me hoping for such sweetness in our future!
THIS: "Elderhood does not have to mean sitting on the sidelines. Nor, should it entail desperately trying to hold on to a fleeting youth. The kind of senior living I choose involves continual learning, remaining open to different ways of thinking, connection, contribution and, yes, a different pace."
Yes! I have that same sense of curiosity and learning. And honestly, Linda, this little type-A personality is grateful for the different pace. This is such a heart-felt post. Thank you. Your piece made me miss my grandparents, long gone from this earth, but not from my heart.

I agree, Becca, and how blessed your grandson is to have a grandma like you who is investing in his life.

Oh do, Anne! It would be a blessing for you AND your nieces. ❤️
LOVE this!
Thanks, Lynn!
I love this post and how you honor the grandmother wisdom of tending the memories. Your granddaughter is fortunate to have you in her life!
Thank you, Kathy. We are both fortunate to have each other. 😊

Oh, Laura, you have such a rich time of life awaiting you with the birth of that first precious grandchild!
This is beautiful!
Thank you. 😊
What a gift to your granddaughter! And what a gift to you, to know that those memories reside in her heart. ❤️
We are grateful for the extended periods of time we had with her when she was younger.
I feel and know the love🙏🏻🤗
Thanks for reading, Cindy. 😊
