I just bought myself one of those crossword puzzle books as a tool in my effort to wean myself away from social media spaces. As you said, I don’t think we will ever be totally analog again, but I have committed myself to spending far less time on social media spaces, and being very circumspect about the time I do spend there. So far the experiment has been a huge success. I feel more present to my life and my self, and I have more physical and mental energy.

Good for you, Becca! I started needle felting for the same reason. It’s a relaxing and meditative activityβ€”the opposite of social media.

"Choose to create space in order to create."

I love this quotation! It's a great reminder to me that often when I say I don't have enough time to work on a creative project, it's actually that I didn't create space in my day for it. And ironically, it's often the digital world that eats up a chunk of my day. Still seeking ways to put more boundaries on my digital time!

I so agree--never going back. And it's an escalating challenge going forward, since I ain't gettin' any younger. (Anybody remember Dennis the Menace: Mr. Wilson, my brain is full!)

It's all a choice, isn't it? The challenge is remembering it is our choice. Thanks for the reminder.

Even as I tap away on my laptop and depend far too much on my phone, I really do enjoy the touch, the feel of paper - my wall calendar, to do list on the desk, writing note cards, and reading real live books, too. Thanks for this thoughtful piece, Linda. I'm resonating.

Your comment reminds me about how much I love things in the stationary stores. I have a drawer full of post-it notes in various sizes and colours and still find myself tempted to buy more. I, too, have a wall calendar next to my desk and appreciate the big picture that the calendar on my phone just doesn’t deliver. I suppose we can be thankful we live in a time where we can choose a balance between analog and digital that suits us individually.

Agree, except that handwriting is harder every day--had to give up my political postcard work because my fingers just don't behave the way they used to. But I can still TYPE!

Handwriting is a lost art. I look at letters my parents wrote and am in awe of their penmanship. The only things I write by hand these days are grocery lists.
